SUPPORT THE #BORNPERFECT CARAVANS CAMPAIGN

Born Perfect Caravan – Djibouti

I am a mother who has personally experienced the consequences of the
pharaonic practice of FGM. My commitment against this devastating tradition
began in the associative framework then evaluated in my professional life
at Radio Television of Djibouti.
Through this platform various actors shared their expertise on air by informing
and communicating on the consequences of this practice. In
Djibouti the prevalence rate is estimated at 78% and the rate of women
who believe that FGM is in the interests of the girl is superior to those who
do not believe it, elements which demonstrate the importance of continuing
the efforts and commitments of all stakeholders in order to put an end to
female genital mutilation, especially in rural areas where the success
rate is low.

These remote and secure areas are identified as practicing sunna
partial clitoris ablation according to the surveys carried
out. It is noted that this caravan will specifically target each village
community, including customary leaders, religious leaders, circumcisers,
as well as mothers and fathers who have not yet been involved
in the decision to perform excision.

These elements demonstrate the importance of pursuing the efforts and commitments of all actors to put an end to female genital mutilation, especially in rural areas where the success rate is low.
In Djibouti, the caravan will start in December 2024, which is the cool season. From south to north, the caravan will pass through a village in each region, starting in the ali sabieh region in Assamo, then moving on to dikhil in the village of As-Eyla, then to Dorra in Tadjourah and finally to khor Agar in the obock region. These remote and secure areas are identified as practicing a “sunna” partial clitoris removal according to surveys conducted. it is noted that this caravan will specifically target each village community, including customary officials, religious leaders, ex excisers, as well as mothers and fathers who have not yet been involved in the decision to perform FGM.
