Ending FGM IN

Mauritania

The next of the revolutionary Born Perfect FGM Caravans – described as the “single best chance of ending FGM by 2030” – will start in Mauritania in September, 2024.

The Caravans with musicians, religous leaders, clan chiefs and giant cinema screen on board will leave no village in Mauritania FGM regions behind.

They have one message:  FGM has to end.  No girl or women left behind.

The situation in Mauritania

Mauritanian woman

Unfortunately, FGM remains prevalent in Mauritania, with a national rate of 72%. High-prevalence regions see rates exceeding 90%. However, there is hope! The MAC/RIM movement has been working tirelessly since 2020 to raise awareness about the dangers of FGM, promote its abandonment, and support survivors.

The Born Perfect Caravans Impact

Already 8/10 people who have witnessed the caravans in other countries have committed not to cut their daughters.
