Watch The launch of the first Born Perfect Caravan
Now, the EU have confirmed a second round of funding to expand the impact of the caravans across the country
Implemented by grassroots activists at the National Committee for the Abandonment of Harmful Traditional Practices (CNAPN), regoin-specific activities included training academies, caravans, and media campaigns aimed at sparking social change from within practising communities.
Led by a united network of frontline activists, survivors, experts, religious leaders and cultural influencers, the Caravan will expand its impact across the country in 2026.
Reaching 31 villages across 5 regions, the Caravan will travel through Bafata, Bambadin, Contuboel, Galomaro, Gamamundo, and Xitole.
The national prevalence rate of FGM in Guinea-Bissau is 52.1% amongst women and girls aged between 15 and 49. However, FGM hotspots remain across the country, including Bafata, with a prevalence rate of 86.9%, and Gabu, a region with one of the highest prevalence rates in the world, where almost 96% of women and girls are cut.
Marliatu Djalo, President of the National Committee for the Abandonment of Harmful Traditional Practices (CNAPN), said:
“This is a new direct way of giving control to the community to end this practice – it is the only way we can do this quickly – and we are really honoured that Africa’s very first Born Perfect Caravan has been launched in Guinea-Bissau.“

Guinea Bissau’s first FGM Prevention and Combat Project was launched to support the Frontline feminists to work with the government to end FGM. Religious leaders, including the highly influential Imam Mamadou Balde, among other imams, are also supporting the caravan.
Since the first caravans rolled in guinea bissau in 2024, they have reached villages across sierra leone, liberia, kenya, and somalia, led by frontline women
